Do You Suffer with Chronic Pain?
Until very recently, our healthcare system has struggled to reduce the suffering of those living with chronic pain. Injections and the multitude of surgical procedures offered to patients often give little or only temporary relief, and in some cases are linked to more, or additional pain sites.
Psychological clinics have offered - and continue to offer "Pain Management" rather than"Pain Treatment"- and even Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - the gold standard treatment for anxiety, depression and other conditions, aims to reduce suffering and improve quality of life, rather than actually treat the pain.
The Good News is that recent research findings now offers hope to Chronic Pain sufferers. In my clinic sessions and groups, I use a variety of evidence-based interventions to treat chronic pain.
So whether your pain began after an accident or injury, or whether of not you have MRI's which show structural damage in your body - I may be able to really help you.
If you would like to discuss your own situation in more detail, please email me via the Contact Page , or at info@susannahhealy.com .
Please note: A doctor's letter of referral is required for many conditions.
Treatment requires every patient to allocate time for daily "homework" between sessions.
The Natural Magic of Hypnobirthing:
What is Hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is the use of hypnosis, mindfulness and breathing techniques to reduce pain and resistance during childbirth.
Any woman can choose to benefit from the effects of hypnobirthing - whether or not you plan to have a medication - free birth or epidural, whether you plan to give birth at home, in a pool or in hospital. The benefits are for everyone!
What is Hypnosis? There are so many stories about it...
Hypnosis is a state of narrowed and focused attention, usually (especially in the case of childbirth) in a state of a lovely, deep relaxation. In fact, you have probably experienced the state many times before but perhaps weren't aware of it! You are in complete control, but are choosing to gently guide your attention towards a very calm state. This allows your clever body to get on with doing what it knows how to do - bringing your precious little one in to the world. So Hypnobirthing helps us (yes- I used it too and wrote about it twice in The Irish Medical Times) to get out of our body's way!
A little anxiety is perfectly understandable during childbirth - after all it's not something we do very often. But what science also tells us is that ongoing anxiety and fear causes all the muscles in your baby's path to tighten, narrowing the space your baby has to move down the birth canal. Fear and stress also decreases the production of nature's wonder drug - Oxytocin.
Why do I need to know about Oxytocin?
Oxytocin ( also called the "love hormone", and the "shy hormone" ) is produced when our body is calm, when we feel empathy and intimate with others, and when we feel safe. A stress free, fear-free, environment increases Oxytocin production , allows the muscles of the body to relax and "Do It's Thing" without us adding tension and tightness. This creates a calm and soothing Welcome To the World for your baby and also tends to decrease the duration of labour.
